With the relaunch of Disobedient Magazine comes new members of our small but growing team.
Wardah Bilal (She/her) is a photographer based in England with a passion for telling visual stories through photography. She often blends film and digital photography to create soft and nostalgic tones. With a BA (Hons) degree in Film and Media from the University of Edinburgh, cinema inspires both her photography and writing.
We are so excited to have her on board as our Visual Media Editor, browse through just some of her recent photography below.
Wardah loves to capture the unposed, real moments of people in daily life, with the vision that they have been caught in a memory or in a dream.
A lot of Wardah’s work has a nostalgic film feel, especially with Fujifilm tones which contrast the clean and thoughtful composition. It’s not just about vintage aesthetics, it’s about trying to convey feelings of softness and stillness.
She often shoots while on slow walks or when exploring a new city, everyday corners become more than just backdrops. There’s a sense of story behind each frame, each location is holds a memory or mood instead of just filling space.
Wardah recently visited a protest against the Palestinian genocide in Manchester, aiming to capture the sheer scale and energy of the crowd.
The gathering was a powerful display of solidarity, with people united in their call for justice and peace. Wardah documented the protest using her Fuji X-T30 II with a 15–45mm kit lens, a setup that allows her to move lightly and shoot instinctively. Capturing the emotion and urgency of the moment.
For her, it wasn’t just a protest, it was a moment of human connection, resistance, and shared purpose. It is these kind of scenes that fuel her passion for visual storytelling.
